“Send me?”

I watched the President’s Memorial Day speech today, and though I sincerely like the man, I’ve got to call him out. As one born in the 60′s, I first became aware of the global community of humanity at the peak of the Civil Rights movement, in the thick of the Vietnam War. I was a Navy brat in CoaCoa Beach, Florida living on Patrick Air Force base the first time I was ever befriended by teenagers who were not members of my family. I was always a kid who rode my bike many streets farther than my parents ever knew, and often [Read more...]

The God Concept, Part 3: First Love

I was more than just a bit confused when I first read how Jesus refers to those of us who hope to be among the chosen (those who enter the kingdom of heaven) as His “bride.” And while most men hurry past Jesus’ marriage parables without fully embracing the depth of their message, I’ve noticed that most women rush past them as well. The God Concept Part 2: Love

In part 1 I spoke of complete “obedience” to God as evidence of belief in an all-powerful and worthy God, and used the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins (Matthew 25:1-17) to illustrate that total obedience is required of those who truly love Him. [Read more...]

The God Concept, Part 1: Obedience

Who is God to you? I don’t mean in a theological sense, nor am I asking for you to think up all the verses that help you define Him from a scriptural perspective. I’m asking you to consider the meaning of God as a concept, an entity, and as a person in your heart and mind.

When I was an atheist, I didn’t even believe in a personal or substantive God, yet I still knew what such a belief would imply if I did believe, so it was the utter lack of this sort of “God” in the lives of most Christians I observed that best reinforced my atheism. [Read more...]

The Sermon on the Mount: The Foundational Rock of Christianity

Anyone who has ever studied mathematics or science knows that before advanced theories or laws can be understood, one must first understand the elementary principals – the basics, the fundamentals, the elemental/foundational truths of that discipline — but it takes little or no grasp of these laws to make use of them. You don’t have to understand gravity for it to keep you on the ground. [Read more...]

My Utmost for His Highest: Oswald Chambers’ classic

I began reading Oswald Chambers’ classic devotional My Utmost For His Highest in 2002, and it has impacted my faith more than any non-biblical text I’ve ever read. Many believers say the book has had equal impact on thier walk with Christ, as evidenced by the fact that it is the best selling Christian devotional of all time. [Read more...]

Understanding scripture to serve in debate: What did Jesus Say?

I recently responded to a lively debate going on at a different blog with the following post (another of my “standing on one foot” commentaries), and oddly enough it seemed to silence the debate, as none of the most vocal participants responded to my comment despite my request that they do so. While it’s a topic I plan to flesh out in the near future, I hope it sets your eyes on Christ today. [Read more...]

Concerning the Lord’s Supper and His Bread of Life discourse

The following is a excerpt of a response to a blog post where the writer asked for discussion on the “sacrament” of communion and Christ’s “flesh and blood” commands of John 6. While I plan to follow up on my statement (which as you’ll likely see I wrote on the fly while standing on one foot), I believe this proper for your consideration… [Read more...]

Speaking of Jesus…

God has me in a good place right now. I praise Him for His clarity and peace in the midst of some really cool challenges and a lot of awesome meditation too. In the wake of several important conversations I’ve had this past week, my prayer time has been more Spirit filled than ever in my life. The clarity has been piercing. I love my God, and when He walked this earth His name was Yeshua… Joshua… Jesus… and His words shook the earth with such force that it spins faster every year… [Read more...]

The Buffet Line

Thank you for visiting JesusDNA.

If you’re aware of this site at the time of this inaugural post, you’re likely a friend or a member of my family, so I hope I can count on you to share this site only as God leads, and otherwise meditate on His word and only His word. Mine are simply observations and impressions that always point to Him, so look to the object of this blog, Jesus Christ, not the writer who seeks to serve Him. [Read more...]
