“Redeemer” by Nicole C. Mullen… you should know the song, the “must see” official video is on Youtube, but for my Spanish Speaking friends… be moved!
Arise and Go South

A thought inspired by my friend and Pastor Curtis Zackery (pictured).
Most people know that the Gospel writer Luke was a Greek citizen and a doctor by trade. But it’s a little less known factoid that the Book of Luke (the Gospel) and the Book of Acts were actually written by Luke as a 2 volume historical treatment to document the birth of Christianity and the manifestation of God to the world. I believe Luke realized [Read more...]
God and Pro Sports?
He likes to be called “King James,” playing off the namesake of the King James Bible. When he answers his phone he refers to himself as “The King.” He embraces his nickname as “The Chosen One.” He encourages his fans to “Witness” his greatness. He posed for the photo you see to the left and approved of having three lions photoshopped at his feet. And he flippantly refers to God as “The Greater Man upstairs.” I used to love Lebron James. He came from humble beginnings in a small Ohio town, [Read more...]
“Just Stop and Think”

A short film from Frances Chan to promote “Crazy Love”… A Must Read for True Disciples. Frances has quickly become one of my modern heros. Read this book and you’ll see why. “Send me?”
I watched the President’s Memorial Day speech today, and though I sincerely like the man, I’ve got to call him out. As one born in the 60′s, I first became aware of the global community of humanity at the peak of the Civil Rights movement, in the thick of the Vietnam War. I was a Navy brat in CoaCoa Beach, Florida living on Patrick Air Force base the first time I was ever befriended by teenagers who were not members of my family. I was always a kid who rode my bike many streets farther than my parents ever knew, and often [Read more...]
The story of the Franklin, the $100 Bill
God spoke to me Sunday…. multiple times… so I have a beautiful story to share. It was as if I was seeing several fibers weaving together into the thread of my life, and in turn woven into the full fabric of His ongoing narrative. I hope my story speaks to you… on many levels… through numerous threads of your own. [Read more...]
King on Gandhi, Gandhi on Jesus
I have long been an admirer of Gandhi the man, though when I was still an atheist (nearly 20 years ago) I thought very little of him. Being a fairly contemporary foreign figure, he wasn’t presented in American history books when I was a kid, and with only ETV to provide educational programming students of my day were left with encyclopedias and magazines as our sole sources of daily information (unless of course you were raised in an educated family with the time and resources to teach above and beyond, which I was not), so I thank God that my US Navy blue class parents had the gumption to buy me a set of World Book encyclopedias [Read more...]
A Simple Modern Parable
I hadn’t spoken with my childhood friend Rick Ruonala since high school, so learning of his own transformation into a true disciple of Christ was a wonderful encouragement to me. He was a couple years ahead of me in school, so I always looked up to him, especially since his younger brother Ray was one of my best friends and the only guy my age that I KNEW was a better athlete than me… and their Dad being the Chief of Police also added to the intrigue of the Ruonala family, especially since Rick and Ray were better role models for jocks and other “big-men-on-campus who like cheap thrills,” far from models of moral living. How things change… [Read more...]
Gervais: “We can’t change what we believe.” Really Ricky?
This is an especially interesting dialogue… I like Ricky Gervais’s work as an actor and comic… but to hear him say “we can’t change what we believe” as his ultimate defense for his inability to reconsider his atheism is about as ignorant a statement as I’ve ever heard from a “smart” guy. You crack me up Ricky, but you’ re not as bright as I thought. I wish, for your sake, I had just one hour to share with you.

The significance of Year 1
It’s the first day of 2011… another New Year, yet not just another year. The fact that it will mark the 10 year anniversary of the horrors of 9-11 should stand as a sign to that fact, as surely few feel a decade has passed since 2001. Personally, it has occurred to me that the 1st year of each decade in my existence has been the marker of tremendous changes, and though I had never before considered this fact it was almost startling to see the way God has aligned my life against the Christian calendar. As I worked backwards, it unfolded like a road map that led to a bittersweet revelation. [Read more...]
